Twitter Adds Lists Feature
Oct 16th, 2009 | By Rex Gradeless | Category: Featured, Lead Article, Social Media, Social Networking, Twitter, Web 2.0Twitter launched a new “Lists” feature where users can create lists of people for others to follow.
Apparently, Twitter has released the lists feature to a select small group of people in the Twitter community. I am not sure of the selection process or how many were in the first wave of users to receive Twitter List capabilities.
This new feature allows you to add Twitter users to a ”list” based on any criteria you choose. You can give your list any title you choose. Other Twitter users can “follow” your lists to get the latest information from the list you create.
Users can also search your lists for new people to follow and add to their Twitter feeds.
There’s also a new category showing how many times your Twitter profile has been “listed”. This is the number of times people have added you to their lists. Currently, I am “listed” in six lists created by others. Those who have “listed” me thus far include some in the legal profession and famed social media guru Robert Scoble (@scobleizer).
Here is what Twitter has said thus far:
New! Lists. A great way to organize the people you follow and discover new and interesting accounts. (BETA)
Lists are timelines you build yourself, consisting of friends, family, co-workers, sports teams, you name it. You’re part of a small group receiving this feature, so don’t tweet about it yet!
Here is the Twitter Team List.
Initial use seems laborious at best. Who really wants to sit around all day making lists? What do you think about this new feature? Doesn’t Tweetdeck and Seesmic Desktop already have built-in list features? Will you be using your Twitter lists? I will probably not for now. Comment below.

How come not every Twitter user has the new Twitter List feature? Congrats on getting the Twitter List added to your account! But what the benefits of this new added feature that is different from other sites like TweepML?

I’m not sure of Twitter’s selection process. I’m sure others will have this soon.
