How Justia Site “Legal Birds” Tracks Legal Professionals on Twitter
Jan 29th, 2009 | By Rex Gradeless | Category: Featured, Social Media, Twitter
Justia.com launched a new site called “Legal Birds”. This site tracks “legal professionals on Twitter”. The new site is very similar to a site launched by Kevin O’Keefe (lextweet.com) yet seems to offer different features.
Justia must have been listening to users who were requesting group-sorting functions on Twitter. Legal professionals have been asking for a mechanism to sort out other legal professionals on Twitter and Legal Birds seems to provide this feature to some extent. Legal Birds allows users to sort by amount of “Community Connections”, “Community Followers”, “All Connections”, “All Followers”, and “Tweets Today”.
Another feature of Legal Birds allows a user to sort legal professional using Twitter by practice area. Tweeting legal professionals can claim their account, remove their account, or add their account to Legal Birds. There is also a valuable “Twitter resources” section in the lower right column for those new to Twitter.
The most interesting feature on Legal Birds is the Google maps section that allows users to see where the legal professionals using Twitter are from. This can be found here.
From Tim Stanley @Justia:
“LexTweet and LegalBirds both have law tweeters. We reworked old LB pages w/views, dir groups, metrics etc. LT update to come – Join Both!”

Rex,
Thanks for spreading the word about LegalBirds. We modeled the design on Justia BlawgSearch (http://blawgsearch.com) which allows visitors to browse legal blogs by practice area and location. The current LegalBirds practice categories are based on the Justia lawyer directory (http://lawyers.justia.com). We are still in beta and appreciate feedback.
Thanks!

What a great resource! I like how they’re all sorted out.
