The application allows iPhone users to stay on top of the latest legal news and developments in any profession, industry, or field of interest. Subjects include immigration, bankruptcy, real estate, labor and employment, insurance, tax, consumer protection, intellectual property, and numerous others.

“Our mission is to make legal content posted on JD Supra visible and freely accessible in all the places an audience for it gathers,” said JD Supra founder, Aviva Cuyler. “With our latest distribution channel, we bring the legal community and its expertise into the promising world of mobile apps. This iPhone app is just a beginning.”

“Legal Edge” is the first iPhone application to be powered by the legal community at large. The app allows users to browse latest legal articles, news of interest, blog posts, and court filings uploaded to JD Supra by lawyers and legal professionals, and to read the content in iPhone’s Safari browser or PDF reader. Users can also connect directly with document authors via a “Contact Contributor” feature within the app.

“Now, my work on JD Supra doesn’t only appear in email digests, Twitter news feeds, Facebook pages, RSS streams, and third-party news sources – it also goes to the iPhone. All I do is upload the document,” said San Diego bankruptcy attorney Carl Starrett.

The company also offers custom iPhone applications for lawyers and law firms who want to stream their own content exclusively via a firm-branded mobile app. “We have a handful of custom iPhone apps in the works,” said Cuyler. “Our clients see the value in making their expert legal content available to mobile readers. Stay tuned.”
