How Lawyers and Legal Professionals Use Web 2.0

Feb 18th, 2009 | By Rex Gradeless | Category: Featured, Social Media

On February 17, 2008 Bruce Carton, Editor of Securities Docket, and Doug Cornelius, Chief Compliance Officer of Beacon Capital Partners, sponsored a webcast that discussed how securities and compliance counsel and professionals can use web 2.0 to promote, market, and network themselves, their practices and their firms as never before.

In the presentation, Doug and Bruce discuss popular social networking technologies used in the legal community including Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.  They also discuss RSS feeds, blogs, and the importance of not burying your head in the sand when it comes to these web 2.0 technologies.  More on the webcast here.

With Doug and Bruce’s permission, we have posted the PowerPoint slides from the webcast and the webcast itself below for your reference.  Leave comments below.

  3. Well done. Great foundational information for lawyers getting their feet wet with social media. A lot times, those in social media circles assume everyone is already well-versed in these powerful. Many, especially those in the legal profession, either believe they don’t have the time to participate, or are simply overwhelmed. Lawyers should know that in only about 3 hours per week, they can find value in using these tools: http://tinyurl.com/bebhhm

Agreed. Efficiency in social media technologies is a major concern for those in the legal profession. Managing your time wisely enough to have an effective online presence is key. You can waste time if you do not know what you are doing and if you sit there all day online looking at your networking sites. Moderation is essential for effectively being present online. I think you could do it in less than 3 hours a week.
